NSA’s Gaming Club

There are various clubs at NorthStar Academy. There’s the drama club, the creative writing club, the cooking club, and many others. One of these is a relatively new club called the gaming club. The gaming club started in late 2021, but it is already quite large with almost 85 members in it! The student leaders are two high school boys named Spencer and Gabriel and the teacher overseer is Mrs. Clark.
Originally, there were many different gaming clubs, each for a specific group of grades (an elementary school gaming club, a middle school gaming club, etc.). It was eventually determined that this was too confusing for students and all the clubs were consolidated into one. Now, gamers of all ages can discuss and play games together in a more streamlined fashion.
There have been various events put on by the leaders of this up and coming club such as a Minecraft building battle and playing some Jackbox games together. The current event (as of February 2022) that is going on is the first ever NSA chess tournament which started in November. Because of time zone issues, time off for holidays, and scheduling troubles, the chess tournament has gone on for quite a long time now. But according to Gabriel and Spencer, there are only three matches left to be played before a winner will be announced!
It’s hard to determine what the most played game in NSA’s gaming club is. Based on the number of posts made about it, I should think it is safe to assume that the world famous Minecraft is a strong candidate. FPS Games, chess, Fortnight, and many others are often discussed. Another active part of this team is a place for students to share their own Youtube and Twitch channels and discuss popular online gamers. Other sections include a place for gaming memes and a section devoted to Minecraft.
At the moment, the gaming club is just getting off the ground and starting. But if they keep up these fun and engaging activities, I’m sure their popularity and outreach will continue to grow!
