Student Council for You

By Izabell W.

Student Council is something that everyone can be apart of. They are there for you. They want to be there for you. They are your voice. It can be hard to get the attention of thousands of students, but they want your opinion to be heard. You can text them anytime and about anything. They are for you.

Elsa is the Elementary Representative. She is in the 9th Grade and she has been going to Northstar for 5 years now!

Anna is the Middle School Representative. She is in the 7th Grade and has been going to Northstar for 3 years now!!

Elsa (ES Rep) / Anna (MS Rep) : MS + ES StuCo Interviews Compilation

What is the biggest thing you have learned while being Rep?

Elsa: One of the most important things I've learned being the ES rep is to not judge people by first impressions. I know, everyone says they believe firmly in first impressions and that's what you should base your opinion off them, blah blah blah, etc. Seriously, this is so wrong. I used to have a LOT of first impressions which affected my opinion of people, but when I got to know them better I found out how wrong I was. So that was one of the biggest things I've learned this year, as an ES rep you meet all kinds of people and it's important not to go by first impressions and judgment from that when you do.

Anna: I think that I definitely learned that the way you act and what you say can influence people in a bigger way than you think. Sounds strange, but it's true. Always try to bring people up, be a light for people when they might be in the dark. People may look up to you because you're the rep, so, it's important for them to know that you're a plain old student like they are.

What advice would you give to the next Rep?

Elsa: Patience. Lots of it. There are going to be people who drive you crazy, deadlines to be met even when life is bonkers, technical difficulties that always manage to get the better of you, and sometimes things just won't go right. But know that it's so worth it. The incredible friendships you'll make, the things you'll learn, it's worth it. But having an extra dose of patience is helpful xD.

Anna: I would say the best advice I have is to always keep going. Yes, it can get a little hard when the students aren't super active when your Grade Calls aren't a huge hit when you don't get many replies to your newsletter...it's not YOUR fault. Just keep going, things might be tough now, but they'll eventually get better, and if not...so what? You did your best as a Rep, and that's what counts.

Are you running for Rep again? If so, what do you plan on changing? If not, why not?

Elsa: No, I don't think I will be running for ES or MS rep next year since I'll be going into the 9th grade. And I may run for 9th-grade rep next year, but I'm not sure about that since it will be my first year in HS, and juggling all the courses I'm taking plus being a rep might be biting off more than I can chew in my freshman year xD.

Anna: As of right now, I don't actually know if I'm going to run. There are a couple of things that may affect my being able to run, but if those things clear out and I can run, I will. I can't say I'd plan on changing much, things are going pretty well, at least from my point of view. I'd definitely be asking the students what they think though, because, after all, they are the people I represent, and their opinion on how I'm doing as a rep is important. :)

Rate your time as Rep from 1-10! 10 being FANTASTIC and 1 being the worst thing ever.

Elsa: I would rate my time being a 9 or 10. Even with all the frustrations I absolutely love my job, my team, and the people I represent.

Anna: 10. I would give it a 100 if I could xD

I hope you have a higher trust and understanding of Student Council. They are very personable people who work very hard to make you heard and supported!
