The Benefits of the Bash

By Jared L.

In the chaos that is the beginning of the school year, the Student Council at NSA strived to ease the tension with special events. The first of these events was the Back to School Bash, which proved to be a great success. The event was set up in such a way that it displayed that we can have fun, but we can also be informative and helpful to one another. It displayed the Biblical concept of “a time and place for everything.” Managing time and understanding what you need to complete a task is a key part to maturity and learning.

The event itself lasted one full week, each day with a different set of calls and opportunities. The days’ topics were everything from academic tips to the hidden stories of the NSA community. Each call was led by the Student Council, making for highly interactive, highly entertaining sessions all throughout. The week was distributed into three different types of calls. The design was made so that there weren’t two fun days back to back, and there weren’t two “calm down” days back to back. This way students won’t have all the fun at the front of the week and not want to come back near the end of the week, and vice versa.  The first, third, and last days were all fun sessions, made by design. These sessions were designed to encapsulate the fun side of NSA, and of Teams, by forming interaction and communication between both the new and the veteran student. The second session consisted of spiritual life sessions. This day toned down the craziness of other calls and gave opportunities to calmly get school work done together, and to hear from the Word of God. The fourth day was a tips and tricks day, aiming to show newbies through the ropes and giving general information on how to have a more productive day. These many varieties of calls led to an even pace that covered a lot of information in a short amount of time.

In any call a student went to, they would take away new information they had never heard before. With several different call types and more importantly call times, any student was able to come when they felt like they could. This relaxing start of a stressful year may be a great encouragement for students to keep persevering in their work.
