Meet the Navigator Staff: Christmas Edition

How is it already December? It seems that time has flown by recently. I, for one, am always looking forward to the holidays and the season that comes with them. Everyone's holiday looks different, especially at an international school like NSA. I invite you to get to know the 2020-2021 Navigator staff with their own words about the holidays.
Aaron Cady
Do you have any holiday traditions? How do you spend Christmas?
My family and I each get another person to find a gift for. We all go shopping and then give them to each other on Christmas Day.
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
The weather is really great around Christmastime. It’s usually in the 80s or 90s, with a lot of sun and a nice breeze. It's the best weather I get all year.

Do you have any holiday traditions? How do you spend Christmas?
We always leave the tree decorating for Christmas Eve and have a movie marathon. We sit around the tree and watch Christmas movies while we open presents in our matching holiday pajamas.
What is your favorite Christmas song?
It’s a tie between “Mary, Did You Know?” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.”
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
The weather is typically a toss up. We generally see a cold Christmas most years. However, there have been times we’ve seen a white Christmas!

Do you have any holiday traditions? How do you spend Christmas?
On Christmas Eve, all of my family comes over to our house and we exchange gifts. Christmas Day is actually my cousin’s birthday, so our family goes to my aunt and uncle’s house and we celebrate there.
What is your favorite Christmas song?
It is so difficult to choose a favorite, but I love “Mary Did You Know,” “I’ll be Home for Christmas” by Michael Buble, and “Christmas Canon” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
It is usually in the 50s outside and sunny. Unfortunately, we never get snow.

Every Christmas morning, my mom makes an egg and bacon casserole.

My favorite Christmas song is “Christmas Again” by Drakeford
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
We live in a very cold place, so it's always snowing where we live. It's also very icy.

Do you have any holiday traditions? How do you spend Christmas?
We put our tree up on December 1st and spend the whole evening decorating our house. On Christmas morning my mom makes monkey bread and we read the Christmas story together.
What is your favorite Christmas song?
“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
The weather is frigid where I live at Christmas time which looks perfect on paper, but not when the electricity goes out.

Do you have any holiday traditions? How do you spend Christmas?
I am part Polish, so we do something called "oplatek." We go around the table and everyone says why they love each other and how thankful they are to have one another. The Polish also have a tradition of having 12 plates of food for the 12 disciples.
What is your favorite Christmas song?
I really love “O come, Emmanuel,” “The Coventry Carol,” “The Christmas Song,” Pentatonix's cover of “Hallelujah,” and their new cover of “Amazing Grace/MyChains are Gone.”
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
Sometimes it's really cold with lots of snow, then other times it's only 60 degrees! Usually, it gets pretty cold and snows a little bit.

Do you have any holiday traditions? How do you spend Christmas?
We never put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving, but after Thanksgiving we decorate the whole house. Since I'm in a big family, we put the names of everyone in a hat and we draw from the hat to see whose Christmas present we'll be getting.
What is your favorite Christmas song?
I don't have a favorite Christmas song and it depends on my mood. If I'm feeling classic, I'll listen to the Bing Crosby White Christmas album or if I'm sleepy, the Charlie Brown album.
What is the weather like where you live on Christmas?
The weather is generally brown. It'll probably be cold and frosty, but the grass and fields will be brown because we usually don't get snow.
