My Story: Jared L.

By Jared L.

I never knew I was going to join NorthStar Academy. In fact, I never knew online school was an option. I never knew that this event in life would lead me to one of the sweetest communities I have ever seen. In the grand year of 2020, when all earth shut down, I was presented with the opportunity of learning this new format. Four years later, I remain in NorthStar Academy and do not plan on leaving anytime soon. However, the question remains: why is this such a good school?

I will start by blatantly stating that not everything is perfect. There are flaws here and there. One of these is the different course layouts. In my experience, one can never quite rely on the exact same format for every course. Some courses use outside resources often, or some give you assignments from outside of Northstar Academy! Is this a bad thing? No, but it does get confusing at times.

The positives outweigh the few negatives, however, as the course material, vast array of teachers, and multitude of classes supply endless opportunity. NSA brings a beautiful opportunity to students like me to truly find and fulfill interests for the future! I feel empowered as I can find where my interests lie at a young age. I can plan for the future now!

Another amazing aspect is NSA’s challenges. Each course revolves around several key concepts, such as looking toward the future and building Christ-like character. Certain lessons portray particular attributes, and students get rewarded for completing them! A badge is given to those who complete harder assignments relating to these attributes.

The final key feature of goodness is the community. Many fear that online schooling means a loss in personality and characteristics, but that is not the case at NSA. I have grown to adore the wonderful people that have built up this community in a truly amazing way. This community thrives off being virtual, encouraging creativity and artistry in unique ways.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed NorthStar Academy and look forward to the astronomical things I can do in the future! I am empowered with possibility and encouraged with motivation!
