New Courses at NSA
By Ellie. B
NorthStar Academy is constantly adding, revising, and improving their courses. There are already an incredible number of courses offered at the school; however, this year, several new classes have been added to the options that high school students can choose from.
Digital Design and Interior Design are two courses that were started in January of this year. The former allows students to build a portfolio, discover how to create using digital tools, and how to market their compositions. The latter focuses on the interior arrangements of buildings that we all live and work in. These new design courses provide opportunities for students to learn different skills.
August 2024 brought the launch of four courses that are brand new to NSA. These new elective classes offer more options for students to expand their knowledge in a variety of subject areas. The four brand new courses available this year are Advanced Placement® Art History, Introduction to Nursing, Introduction to Marketing, and Dual Credit Apologetics- Understanding the Times.
AP® Art History provides students with the opportunity to discover connections between “art, culture, and historical context…” (northstar-academy.org). This class provides students with the opportunity to receive college credit if they take the Advanced Placement® exam associated with the curriculum. NorthStar offers many different courses that allow students to explore potential career options. Two more of these classes were added to NSA’s course catalog: Introduction to Nursing and Introduction to Marketing. Introduction to Nursing provides a strong background in how to navigate the healthcare system, how to become a nurse, and how to best care for patients. Basic advertising skills, “the role of marketing…” in businesses, and understanding target audiences in addition to a myriad of other skills are all abilities that are developed in the Introduction to Marketing course (northstar-academy.org). NSA has offered an apologetics class for many years now, but now a dual credit apologetics class is available. DC Apologetics- Understanding the Times allows students to “look at how our Christian worldview impacts other competing worldviews” (northstar-academy.org). The dual credit option gives high school students an opportunity to earn college credit for the course.
Over two hundred courses are available at NorthStar Academy, and the course catalog is constantly growing and developing. The vast array of classes provide choices to students. The recent addition of these six courses add to the always-expanding variety of courses offered here at NorthStar Academy.
