Saying Goodbye to a Very Special Editor-in-Chief
by Mrs. April Meyer
I’m not good at saying goodbye. Is anyone really? I push those thoughts to a far corner of my mind and try not to think about partings until the last possible moment. Well, that moment has come--the last publication for Savannah Laux as Editor-in-Chief of The Navigator. I struggled with how I could show my gratitude. And then I realized that I could honor her in the way she has blessed us--with published words.
Let me celebrate her accomplishments: I believe that this last publication or any publication this year of our beloved school newspaper would not be possible without Savannah’s dedication. In October of 2018, Savannah and Cody Johnson contacted me to ask if I would consider being the teacher adviser for the newspaper. I was honored that they had thought of me. We spent hours on Skype talking, planning, and dreaming big. And the seed for The Navigator as you see it today was planted.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would be able to move The Navigator to a different platform in our first rebuilding year, but without being asked, Savannah did that. She has given NSA a legacy and vision. As I like to say, “NorthStar Academy is a real school with a real school newspaper.” And we have Savannah Laux to thank for that.
