The Drama Club
By Aaron Cady
Every school has a drama club. It is a staple of any school, just like math classes or school contests. Naturally, we have our own Drama Club at North Star. Like the other clubs, it has a Teams channel, and anyone can join. The Drama Club is for anyone who loves theater or acting. While North Star isn’t able to put on any plays or shows, students can still benefit from joining the Drama Club.
Fianna de Pater is a ninth-grade student at North Star. This is her second year at NSA. “I’m from America and Holland,” she says, “but I was born and live in Shanghai.” Fianna is a part of the Drama Club, and she joined a couple of months ago. It was an easy choice for her to join. “I joined because I love drama and acting and theater and movies,” she said. “I love drama and wanted to be part of it here at NSA, so I asked to join the drama club.”
The Drama Club may not be exactly what many people expect. It is different than a normal drama club because North Star is an online school. NSA’s students live all around the world, so doing a play would require a lot of planning and forethought. Maybe it could happen in the future. However, that doesn’t mean that the Drama Club isn’t busy. “The teacher asks little questions each week or month, and whoever gets the best answer wins a prize,” said Fianna. “You can post questions or comments about anything related to drama.” Questions, discussions, and debates all happen in the Teams channel.
Joining a club is a perfect way to get a new hobby, improve your skills, or just have fun. “My favorite thing about the Drama Club is that I can geek out about drama and acting,” Fianna says. Branching out and learning something new is always a good thing. It could be the start of something new, or it could be a way to continue in something that you love. Fianna says that joining the Drama Club has helped give her the confidence to be herself and share her drama.
Being a part of a team is a great experience. Knowing how to work well with others is a beneficial skill to have. What better way to do it than joining a club at NSA? There is a club for everyone. It’s okay to be shy or nervous. Find a club and give it a try. You never know how much you might like it.
