The Spiritual Emphasis Events of NorthStar
By Caylee Lamb
The Spiritual Emphasis Events connect students of NSA from all over the world, providing them with an in depth look into God’s Word. Learn about what goes into these important events, and how the Spiritual Life Leader keeps everything running smoothly.
Emma Groskreutz, an 11th grade student, has been the Spiritual Life Leader since July 2019. Before planning the Spiritual Emphasis Events, Emma selects a topic that is applicable to the diverse demographic of students at NSA. From there, the speakers are contacted, the event is advertised, and the team is set up in Microsoft.
It is highly encouraged that you attend the Spiritual Emphasis Events every year, for the wealth of information that is given. Students can expect interactive teachings with knowledgeable and experienced speakers. They are also encouraged to have fun conversations with other Christ-minded attendees.
The October 2019 Spiritual Emphasis Events are called Saturated in the Good Life. They highlight the three books of wisdom, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job. I attended the event focused on Proverbs and found it to be very enlightening. The most important piece of information I learned is that if we have a reverent awe of the Lord, our perspective changes. This is the beginning of wisdom. I can confidently say that the event lives up to its expectations. I appreciate the participation aspects and seeing other students there.
Mr. Cooley tells me it’s an honor to be asked to be a speaker at the Spiritual Emphasis Events. He says, “The most important thing that could ever happen out of a student’s time at NorthStar is that they choose to put their trust in Christ as their Savior.” Mr. Cooley believes that the Spiritual Emphasis Events are another opportunity to present this choice to the students. “At NorthStar, we don’t want to just see students learning about math, science, and English. We want them to see and savor their Creator, and to understand who God has created them to be.”
The Spiritual Life community offers extra resources for outside development after the events. Students are always welcome to contact the speaker, should they have any additional questions or comments. For the first time, there will be two Spiritual Emphasis Events held in the 2019-2020 school year! The next one will be held in February, so be sure to check the Spiritual Life channel for updates.
For any questions regarding Spiritual Life contact the Spiritual Life Leader, who is also the Student Council Vice President. I highly advise you to attend the Spiritual Emphasis Events later this year and in the future. As always, the Spiritual Life channel in Teams is a great resource for prayer, encouragement, and announcements.
