The Word Weaver

By Keziah H.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (New International Version, John 1:1-5).

Have you ever considered just how amazing the written word is? The beauty of a story has taken people captive with wonder for as long as time. And a well-written essay can be so persuasive that it can spark a war, in the case of works like Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. Language seems to have a kind of authority about it.

What about the One who has all authority, God? What does He have to do with words? The clearest example is in Creation. This is a point that’s easily forgotten, but it is mind-blowing that God wove the entire universe into place, creating laws of gravity, genetics, and nature, using only His words! And He didn’t stop there. His Word forms the most important book for Christians worldwide, the Bible. Created with divine authority, this holy book has been compared to a two-edged sword, and it’s relevant for our lives today.

So, now you may be thinking, how on earth does this article relate to me? It’s great that God can weave words and use them to create beautiful things, but how do I apply that to my life? Well, now that it’s clear just how much words matter, they should be used in a manner that glorifies God. Using kind words can brighten someone’s day, but a thoughtless comment could leave that person feeling crushed. And if you have a gift for words, whether in speaking, reporting, or writing, you can give back to God by sharing about Him.

And if you want to be closer to the God who made words here at NSA, there are many options for you. The two Spiritual Emphasis Events, or SEEs, each year, are fun and informative as well as a great way to grow spiritually. There’s also the Spiritual Life channel in Teams, where you can share whatever is on your mind- praises, prayer requests, or questions. And if you prefer a more personal group to share with, the Girls’ and Guys’ Community Group meets often and allows for sharing and good conversations.  So remember just how powerful your words are today, and take a moment to consider the One who made them.
