Get to know the Navigator Staff: New Year’s Edition

By Karis T.

The staff of the NorthStar Navigator write articles on other students, teachers, events, and clubs around NSA all year long. Naturally, as readers, none of you get to really know them through what they write. To help solve that problem, I’m here to divulge the New Year’s resolutions of the Navigator staff.

Lydia

My resolution for the year is to have a better school/life balance. I want to be more intentional with my time. I tend to... get distracted whenever I'm doing something, and very rarely am I ever doing just one thing. I never really sit down and say ‘Okay, this is the time I'm going to use towards doing BLANK.’ When I have specific times to do things, I'll be more able to do things I want to do during my REAL break times. I want to spend more time in my Bible, more time hanging out with my family, and more time doing things just for myself like painting my nails or reading a fun book. These are things I tend to "wish I had time for." So, I'm going to start making time for these things by using the time I do have intentionally!”

Ava

“[O]ne resolution I have is that I want to live my life in the present. There are some huge changes coming up in my life for 2022 as a senior graduating and going back to America for college, and I know time will go by so fast. I want to make sure I'm experiencing the present and valuing even the smallest moments. Next, I want to be better about making time for God and strengthening my relationship with Him. It's always in the craziest and busiest times in your life that you need Him the most, but also when it's the hardest to prioritize Him. He already knows my future and I'll need Him every step of the way.”

John

“As a Junior in High School, I’ve found that life gets busier, and busier, without relent. And with that, I’ve also realized something I never understood until a couple years ago: time is fleeting, and there is never enough of it. Therefore, with that context out of the way: This year I want to manage my time better as time management doesn’t come naturally to me, not in the realm of school it doesn’t. It’s funny, when I’m heading out to town to do something, I can’t stand being late, but when I’m doing school, I end up doing other things on my computer instead, I think that qualifies as goofing off.”

Rebecca

“Hmm for a resolution, I don’t know. I don’t usually do those. But perhaps if I were to choose a word or something it would be ‘balance’. Just to find the right balance between school and life and all of that. And I suppose that could be taken quite literally too... balance is what you need for horseback riding xD”

Ian

“A word for the year that I want to focus on is ‘Control.’ Control over school, the happenings of life, my relationship with the Lord, my lack of friends, and the various other pressing requirements of my time. Lately, it has felt like all these things are little balls rolling away. I juggled them too long and dropped all of them. Going into this new year, I feel desperately out of control, and old bad habits creep back in. I believe that New Years can revitalize my journey towards something I’ve always wanted – something that I work towards all year long. A catalyst to my aspiration. That’s what I want New Years to become for me.”

Keenan

“I want to focus on taking care of myself, being more physically active, working out, and eating healthily. I want to grow more emotionally, and I want to practice and learn how to speak more about my feelings or emotions while in a setting or situation that might upset me. I also want to set in habits of regularly painting, drawing, or working on other creative projects. I’d like to grow closer to God, spend more time with him [and] actually focus on studying the bible in a theology sense. I want to put more time and attention into learning and practicing French, [and] I’d like to take a Latin or ballroom dance class.”

. . .

Happy New Year from all of us at the Navigator!
