My NSA Story
By Avery P.
When I was growing up, the idea of homeschooling or online school was foreign to me. I attended a public elementary school. Every day I would wake up and go to school from nine in the morning to four in the afternoon. I did this from kindergarten to well into my first year of middle school. However, along with the rest of the world, my life changed in 2020. I found myself at home and not in school with friends. Little did I know I would not be going back to public school. For the next two years, I would attend a local homeschool co-op. Once high school hit, I needed something different and a bit more challenging. This is when I first started attending NorthStar!
I was not the first one in my family to attend NorthStar, my older brother and sister started in the 20-21 school year. They both graduated from NorthStar. I was excited and skeptical about joining NSA. It was all new and foreign. I had never experienced something like this. All I knew was getting up and going to school, or at least going to school a couple of days of the week. Staying home every day was new, and to be honest, I was not sure how I would enjoy it. I am a very social person; so this did not sound very fun. Fortunately, I was wrong about NSA. I thrived in my first semester and my second semester of freshman year. Of course, it came with its challenges academically. However, I loved Northstar and still love Northstar. All of my classes were engaging, all my classes were academically challenging, and all my teachers were incredibly supportive.
A typical day in my life will look something like this! I wake up between six and six-thirty and start to work on my classes. Around seven-thirty, I get coffee and breakfast. From there I work diligently till noon, where I take a break to eat lunch. After lunch, I will continue to work if I still have school, or I will read. In addition, working out and fitness is a big part of my life. I love going to the gym or going outside to work on my volleyball skills. This helps clear the mind and allows for better focus.
Doing NorthStar has let me go to work and go to the gym in the middle of the day. In addition, online school has allowed my schedule to be flexible. With NorthStar, I have been able to go to lunch or coffee with people, I have been able to do Bible study with someone from church, and I have been able to hang out with friends. NorthStar has helped me achieve my academic goals. Through NorthStar, I have a high GPA and great grades, and I am learning more and more information. Since my time here at NSA, I have learned so much valuable information, and my knowledge of the world has grown exponentially. Needless to say, I have greatly enjoyed my time at NSA so far.
